BANFF Mountain Film Festival World Tour – 7-10pm, Paramount Theatre – $18
Celebrating its 40th anniversary, this film festival showcases a series of short films, each containing daredevils performing extreme outdoor stunts and activities, straight from the natural beauty of Alberta. Â You’ll be able to visualize journeying to the most exotic locations, paddling the wildest waters, and climbing the highest peaks. Â The event runs through this weekend.
Special Olympics Colorado Splash and Dash – 11am, Denver Zoo – $35-40 for run/walk
This year, the Colorado Special Olympics “Polar Plunge’ brings things local with the Splash and Dash at the Denver Zoo. Â Participants can wear zoo-themed costumes for the 5k run and subsequent polar plunge (this time, into an oversized swimming pool), with all pledges and proceeds benefitting the Special Olympics’ Colorado chapter. Â Registration for the Splash and Dash starts at 9 a.m. near city park, located at East 17th Ave. and Colorado Blvd. Those who participate in the Plunge are requested to raise a minimum $75 pledge, and there is an additional $40 fee for the 5k. Spectators will be admitted for the regular zoo admission price of $6.75 to $9.75 (free for children ages two and under), while contestants get into the zoo for free. NHL Stadium Series Alumni & Regular Season Games – 5pm Friday and 6pm Saturday, Coors Field – Prices Vary
With the NHL Stadium Series officially kicking off tonight at Coors Field, our attention has focused on Detroit Red Wings and Colorado Avalanche hockey stars of present and yore. Â Watching stars such as Peter Forsberg, Chris Chelios and Adam Foote play head-to-head one more time will surely be an event worth remembering. Saturday’s regulation game is sure to draw at least a few octopi to the ice as the Detroit Red Wings take on the Colorado Avalanche in the first annual outdoor spectacle.
Whether or not you’re attending this weekend’s NHL Stadium Series events, you can still play a big part in helping our military heroes in need.  NHL All-Star Jeremy Roenick, along with Schomp BMW and Keller-Williams Realty, is seeking to raise $50,000 for the Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing program. The organization, established in 2005, is dedicated to the physical and emotional rehabilitation of disabled active military service personnel and disabled veterans through the beauty and serenity of fly fishing.
