MINI’s quest to keep getting better is making a difference for YOU! The proof can be seen in Consumer Reports' 2023 Overall Quality rankings. MINI leapt ahead 5 spots on this year’s list, landing in the top 3.

The rankings are based on overall scores on road tests, reliability and owner satisfaction surveys. They reviewed their findings on 32 different brands both foreign and domestic.

What makes this so significant is that Consumer Reports – CR – is one of the most-respected consumer testing organizations. It is totally independent and does meticulous research. It even anonymously purchases all of the vehicles it tests from licensed dealers.

Why do CR’s testing and rankings matter?

If you’re like many consumers these days, you do a lot of online research before purchasing a vehicle. Independent ranks and reports are important components of shoppers’ research. “The rankings can be helpful to shoppers by indicating brands that shine and those that should be approached with more caution,” according to Consumer Reports' researchers. “The brands that land at the bottom are those that tend to fall short in our road tests and/or with reliability. They may still offer good cars but not consistently across their model range, and buyers should be wary.”

What Goes into CR’s Rankings

For each of the 32 brands tested, Consumer Reports purchased two models. To arrive at an Overall Score, four factors are considered:

• Road Tests – more than 50 tests and evaluations make up the score.
• Reliability – CR’s Annual Auto Surveys indicate problems
• Owner Satisfaction – The score is derived from surveys that ask “Would you buy the same car again?”
• Crash tests – Extra points are earned by vehicles that have crash-prevention systems.
