Love Hope Strength Interview

INTERVIEW: LHS Collected 36,490 Registrations and Found 710 Matches So Far in 2015

What do you get when you combine music, celebrities and a cause that helps save lives? Love Hope Strength. For about eight years, Love Hope Strength has hosted a booth at concerts and events around the world to inform people about the “Get on the List” campaign and hopefully get them to sign up on the international bone marrow database. By signing up, these people can potentially be a match for someone who has cancer and is looking for a donor.

So far, Love Hope Strength has gathered 120,000 registrants and has found 2,117 potential life-saving matches. The organization was co-founded by Mike Peters, two-time cancer survivor and internationally acclaimed singer of Welsh rock band The Alarm. LHS has partnered with music celebrities such as Andrew McMahon of Jack’s Mannequin and Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness.

This week, we spoke with Love Hope Strength’s Vice President of Programs, Katie Sullivan Poppert about 2015’s success and what’s to come for LHS.

Has 2015 been a successful year for Love Hope Strength? Why?

Katie Poppert: 2015 has been our most successful year yet, with more people added to ‘the list’ and more matches found than in any previous year, and with three new successful events: The LHS Gala in Denver, Rock the Skyline in New Jersey and Red Rocks ROCKS in Denver.

You announced that Kenny Chesney has been a successful tour to partner with. Tell us about that!

KP: We’ve done 32 total shows with Kenny Chesney, in 2013 and again in 2015. We added 2,377 Kenny Chesney fans during those shows.

What is the highest amount from any performer’s concert from over the years?

KP: The highest amount is currently held by Flogging Molly with 34 matches, followed closely by Andrew McMahon with 32.

Tell us about what LHS is up to right now.

KP: We’re currently looking forward to 2016, working hard to confirm upcoming festivals, tours, and concerts around the country.

Any new music partners?

KP: We were excited to add New Politics, Damian Marley, The Doobie Brothers, DAWES, The Foals and Dustin Lynch to our supporting artist lineup in 2015.

Anything coming up Denverites should be a part of?

KP: We’re working on planning our 2nd annual LHS Gala, hosted at the new Schomp MINI showroom on Friday, March 25th.
